Yesterday I wrote my bike around town a bit.

First stop was Gallery Christina Wilson at her almost new location(september 08) on Esplanaden. The gallery has last call on two very different but very nice exhibitions.

The mains shows Alicja Kwade. A Berlin based Polish artist working in various media and using design-styles and art genres as part of a very intricate and delicate language.

I found myself contemplating value vs. time, product expectation and function in society vs. material expectation and actual placement - situation (right now, gallery etc.). The shows main piece Parallelwelt 1, 2008 (8 Kaiser-Idell lamps, 8 mirrors, ca. 98 x 392 x 56 cm) echoes thoughts of vanity, narrow mindedness as the lamps looking only at themselves becomes animated in a dance in front of a mirror -  that isn’t a mirror but plain glass and the reflection isn’t a mirage but reality - and maybe then serves us a as a reminder of our own closed off little worlds.

I really like the use of materials and found objects that aren’t transformed into art by process or otherwise manipulated by the artist hand. A piece that doesn’t quite catch me as much is Palette, 2009(Found object, palette of mahogany, shellac, 14 x 100 x 118 cm). I took to it at first, but it drifts behind other pieces in the show and the process and statement seems locked into a smaller place than for instance Raum - Zeit – Doppeltkrußmmung, 2009(2 mechanical mantel clocks of same model (ca 1940/50), MDF, HDF, black high glossy finish, 97 x 84 x 175 cm) that opens up by using furniture styles of the early 20th century, time pieces even older, but denies function and incorporates the viewer in its design and reflective surface.

In the project room there was great photographs by Absalon Kirkeby - yes Per Kirkeby’s son. The photos were great - they really were, but many people take great pictures including Jason Alami - I guy I have mentioned and shown here earlier.

I stopped by Christoffer Egelund, the gallery was open, but he wasn’t there. He was showing a group show of painting that were very nice, but also bordering cliche. All of the paintings were excellent in execution and composition, but I my boat isn’t really rocked by the traditional use of the genre these days.

I stopped by Martin Asbæk Gallery but he wasn’t there - hanging a new show a photography that looked very interesting. Trine Søndergård is showing very dark monochrome portraits.

Finally I hung out with Per at Franz Jaeger and Me. Got my self a new spring hat and went on my way home.

IMG_0307Friday night we stopped by Martin Asbæks new flat in Islands Brygge. Very nice place, off course filled with great art amongst this Berta Fisher. I really like her sculptures and this one though standing on a table looks almost invisible with its reflections.

Its placement on an old looking table is quite nice, though temporary, it is going up on the wall. I nice in between sculpture and painting piece - it is made from a single sheet of plastic.

My old Game Boy just showed up in a random box of bank papers from the US. HAH. Awesome. The coolest. Ever. Yeah. How great. Now I have to find the games.
